Yes, that is in fact the sound barrier being broken at mach 1. (1225 km/h, or 761.2 mph.) But make no mistake, this baby's capable of an easy mach 2, with a cruising speed and altitude of mach 1.5 at 60,000ft. And thanks for the comments!!

This actually does not necessarily happen at the moment of exceeding the speed of sound. It does happen at high speed, yes, but it doesn't need to be as fast as the speed of sound. Incidentally, the sound “barrier” isn't much of a barrier for any aircraft that can surpass it, is it? The vapor you see appears for much the same reason that clouds form. It depends on moisture content of the air as much as on the speed and shape of the aircraft. It is not related to sound at all. They might be coincidental from time to time, but are not related.
Dayum, now that is a picture worthy for my background, what are the chances of capturing this as Genius said it only lasts for a fraction of a second right? Or is this where the ultiple picture mode comes in to play??
that's one hell of a picture, the best sound barrier break i've ever seen! how was this picture taken by the way? wouldn't this phenomenon last only for a fraction of a second?
