On July 28th 1945 Capt. Bruce S. Weber, commander of the VF-31 led a strike on the Japanese battleship ISE.
Bruce, flying an F6F-5 Hellcat was credited with a direct hit that eventually sank the battleship.
He was awarded the Navy Cross for this action.

Great pic. This plane does not get the recognition the F4U gets. I love the F6F. I also love the F4U. But there is something about this plane that I adore. this plane achieved a 19-1 kill ratio the highest for any allied fighter Ever. over 5600 Japanese met their fate at the hands of the great HELLCAT. 75percent of all Japanese air victories were at the claws of the F6F
