' I owned, until recently a THUNDERBIRD ', but it was manufactured by FORD,in fact i've had two. I tried so hard to get them off the ground into the air, 120..130mph..nuh..wouldn't lift off. So i'mwarning you, dont buy a FORD.

I received confirmation from the Thunderbirds that the photo has not been photoshopped. The number 5 is painted upside down because the lead
solo spends about 80 percent of the performance inverted, therefore when the crowd sees the number it is right side up. ;)

@tribalbear78
That's what I said a few posts back -.-
And I've solved the mystery of the 5. Take a look at thunderbirds.airforce.com/team_officers.html
It if you look at who's flying plane 5, you will see that they actually display an upsidedown 5. The 5 is actually different from the rest!

While I do see the problem with the 5 not being inverted, this shot could be made by the planes flying in a staggered formation, with the lower plane being closer to the viewer than the upper plane. And, being that the lower plane appears to be slighty larger in leangth from nose to tail, this seems likely. However, the 5 is not correct if this is the case.
