Il Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk è il primo velivolo che viene definito stealth, "invisibile". Il suo ruolo era quello del bombardamento tattico;veniva impiegato soprattutto nelle incursioni notturne, e anche da questo derivava la sua colorazione completamente nera (viene utilizzata una vernice speciale radar assorbente) e non solo per questo riesce a sfuggire ai radar ma anche grazie alla sua particolare struttura molto affusolata e triangolata che dovrebbe assorbire le onde radar,restituendone una traccia sicuramente ridotta.
