The first squadron of F-11's (12 Planes) were sent to Viet Nam. After 3 or 4 crashed because of mechanical failure, they were grounded. I was there when this tragedy occurred. I don't what happened to them after they were grounded, but as far as I know they weren't flown for the rest of 1967, or maybe '68.

Sorry above post, it was originally contracted by the Navy.
The planes stayed in service until 1991 when they were retired and sold to austrailia.

The F-111 was made in the early 60's. I was originally contracted for the navy but was too heavy for their aircraft carriers(i know i have lifted the tail hook with a few guys). The air force then adpopted it and used various models of it F-111a FB-111(carried nukes and heavily flown by S.A.C). Also set a record as fastest jet under 500 miles of Mach 2 plus.
Had participated in flying either a heart or some vital organs accross the country for operations and humanitarian reasons.
Thes were the planes that shut up Khadafi in 865 and i was proud to work on them.

Great photo of the worlds premier strike jet, F1-11C. Excellent angle!!! Love the 1990's paint scheme!

Couple of great shots, believe these are Aussies, USAF birds were F/B or EF's. Seems like Tomcats were born from a failed attempt at navalizing the 111.
