Great picture of the F 35A. At one point the UK MOD considered this variant, but then considered the C variant; and being larger than the B variant and had a longer range and could carry more stores.

The UK Admiralty also had to consider the cost of the two new QE
class CVAs and the trade off between the B over the C. So, the US has all three variants, leaving the UK with the F 35B model, which meant that no arrester wire for landing or magnetic catapults was required; instead constructing the ski ramp for take off, which has been adopted by other nations became the best and cost effective option for the UK.
