The de Havilland vampire was Britains fist single engined jet fighter.The prototype fist flew in 1943 and later entered service in 1946 .It also represents a significantpart of New Zealands aviation history by be coming RNZAFs fist poerational jet aircraft in 1951.It remained in service until 1972.

The vampire was a succeful design as it ultimately flew in 21 countries including Australia where over 100 were built under license there.
