Forty Years ago on January 21, 1976 a miracle of modern day engineering was getting ready to take off from the Heathrow airport in Britain to Bahrain in the Middle East.
The miracle was the supersonic Concorde – an ultimate expression of the Jet age, a sign of opulence and modern engineering design. It flew passengers across oceans at supersonic speeds, the only commercial aircraft ever to do so.
Onboard the Concorde was one of the most luxurious experience of its time. The menu consisted of Champagne Dom Perignon 1969, caviar and lobster canapes, grilled fillet steak, palm heart salad with Roquefort dressing and fresh strawberries with double cream with in-flight attendants offering customers Havana cigars.
The Concorde flew from 1976 till 2003 when it was retired. It was a sad day in the history of aviation, which sent technology backwards several decades, and continues to do so as today’s commercial aircrafts are technologically not even half of what the Concorde was capable of. Even today, the 40-year old Concorde’s technology is adapted into modern aircrafts from Boeing and Airbus to make them better
