The 'Mossie' was truly the 'wooden wonder' aircraft of WW-II. Since aluminum was in such short supply, DeHavilland engineers convinced the RAF that they could 'use plywood to good effect' ... using a new 'glue' they'd conjured up that (eventually became) known as 'epoxy!' Then, they asked that (some and, then, a LOT) of cabinetmakers who'd been 'called to duty' be culled out of the ranks and returned to England to help turn these things out. Again, fortunately, the RAF agreed to these demands - especially once their 'brass' had witnessed a high-speed pass and echelon roll of two prototypes. 'nuf sed!
