This photo shows the amount of AAA the Marines fired to repulse a Japanese commando-style raid on Yontan Airfield, Okinawa, in May, 1945. I believe over a dozen twin-engine transports each carrying 14 raiders were shot down, but one did manage a gear-up landing. Judging by the amount of damage done by the 8 or so grenade/incendiary-wielding suicide-driven survivors, the attack would have been catastrophic had it not been for the AAA. Semper Fi!
