The Draken was supposed to be a gap-filler for a 10-year period of time, but was serving for 18 years over Austria.
The Austrian J-35Oe were built in the 1960's and were bought as used J-35D models from the Swedish Air Force in 1985.
The aircraft were converted in Oe-models by adding a bird-strike-protected canopy and by upgrading and replacing avionic components. In 1992 the Drakens received ALR-45 Radar Warning Recievers and Chaff & Flare dispensers.
18 years - 23.599 flight hours - without any accident is an international record number for the reliability of fighter jets.
